Arizona Silver Belt, Globe, AZ Wednesday, January 05, 2011 Mary Nunez Hernandez, age 80, passed away Friday, Dec. 31, 2010, at her home in Claypool. She was born Nov. 23, 1930, in Miami, Ariz., the daughter of Elena (Benitez) and Juan Nunez. She married Abraham C. “Willo” Hernandez and was the loving mother of ten children. Mary was a member of Our Lady of the Blessed Sacrament Church. She loved going to church, believing in God and her priests for years. She put God in her children’s lives and stressed the importance of good morals. Her faith was strong and provided comfort through her trials of life. Mary was very active in her younger years. She and Willo enjoyed camping and served as camp hosts, while family and friends would visit them every summer. She was a very giving person and always put others before herself. As a homemaker, Mary enjoyed making tortillas. Mary loved to volunteer at St. Vincent de Paul and different organizations, including working at the election polls. Mary’s children will miss her greatly and are extremely grateful for the many sacrifices she made for them and loving them all equally. Mary N. Hernandez leaves behind in loving memory eight daughters, Sara Harger of Phoenix, Ariz., Martha Renteria of Show Low, Ariz., Juanita Hernandez of Globe, Ariz., Mona Sluyter of Globe, Ariz., Bea Cabrera of Phoenix, Ariz., Rosie Lent of Virginia Beach, Va., Caroline Campos of Phoenix, Ariz., and Bernadine Medina of Mesa, Ariz.; 35 grandchildren, 70 great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren. Mary was preceded in death by her husband of 56 years, Abraham C. “Willo” Hernandez, on Feb. 1, 2005; son, Abraham W. “Little Willo” Hernandez on Nov. 15, 2005; and daughter, Mary Helen Garcia on Nov. 2, 2010. Visitation will be held Friday, Jan. 7, 2011, at 9 a.m. at Our Lady of the Blessed Sacrament Church, 844 W Sullivan St., Miami, Ariz. Rosary will follow at 9:30 a.m., and mass will begin at 10 a.m. on Friday. Interment will be at Mt. Breeze Memorial Gardens, Miami-Superior Highway in Miami, Ariz. Funeral arrangements for Mary N. Hernandez were handled by Miles Funeral Services Miami.
