The White Mountain Independent, Show Low, Arizona ~ January 25, 2008 Betty Jo Hobbs, 75, died peacefully in the early morning hours of Sunday, Jan. 20, 2008, at the home of her daughter following a lengthy illness. Betty Jo was born March 8, 1932, in Mill Creek, Okla., to the late George Edmond and Dovie May (Crownover) DeShazo. She moved to Arizona 54 years ago from her native Oklahoma. She worked for many years as a caterer at several locations in the state. Betty also worked at Arizona State University for about 12 years where she enjoyed and loved the students. She loved to crochet, she loved her children and her family. Betty was a very religious person. She was preceded in death by her husband, J.E. Hobbs Jr., Oct. 23, 1981; brother Allard DeShazo and sister Shirley Flood. She is survived by four children, Billie Bechtel, Elizabeth Lozano, Richard Hobbs and Charles Hobbs; six grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; three brothers, Everett DeShazo, Leonard DeShazo and Arthur DeShazo; and one sister, Mary Farris. A visitation was held Wednesday, Jan. 23, at the Owens Mortuary Chapel, 320 N. 9th Street in Show Low, with services at the same location. Owens Mortuary of Show Low handled the arrangements.
