MESA, ARIZONA - Mary Ann Whitesell, formerly of Mason City, died Friday (Oct. 8, 1999) at her home. Mary Ann Whitesell was born March 31, 1930, at Mason City, the daughter of Roy and Cordula Buechele of Grafton. After graduating from Grafton High School she attended Stephens College in Columbia, Mo., from 1949 to 1950, Washington University, St. Louis, Mo., in 1951, and graduated in elementary education from the University of Iowa, Iowa City, Iowa, in 1952. Mary Ann married Vernon Jensen on July 13, 1952, who preceded her in death on September 11, 1961. Mary Ann married Hugh Whitesell on Sept. 28, 1974, in Mason City, and moved to Mesa, Ariz., in 1976. She is survived by her husband, Hugh, of Mesa, Ariz.; daughters, Mary Jane Lionberger and Jennifer Ceccarelli, both of Phoenix, Ariz.; a son, Joel Jensen, of West Des Moines; Stepdaughters, Sheryl Gigstad, of Washburn, Wis., and Susan Bratrud of Mesa, Ariz.; stepson, John Whitesell, of Marshalltown; grandchildren, Michelle and Renee Jensen, Heather and Caleb Lionberger; stepgrandchildren, Shad, Daniel and Jill Whitesell, Erik Gigstad, Kristin (Gigstad) Kosterman; Rebekah, Lara and Kathryn Bratrud; and stepgreat-grandchildren, Alysa and Christopher Whitesell. She was an active member of P.E.O. for 35 years and a member of Naomi Circle at Victory Lutheran Church in Mesa, Ariz. Memorial services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 16, 1999, at Victory Lutheran Church in Mesa, Ariz. Interment will be in the Garden Columbarium at the Christ Lutheran Church, Sedona, Ariz.
