WENSEL, Dwight Davis, D.O.


The Leon Journal-Reporter -- Leon, Iowa November 25, 2009 Dwight Davis Wensel D.O. passed from this life on November 1, 2009 at University of Arizona Medical Center, Tucson, AZ. Eulogy read by son Dan: My family, Sylvia and I would like to welcome all of you to this celebration of life; to celebrate a life well lived by Dwight Davis Wensel; son, brother , uncle, husband, father, grandfather, fiancee, great grandfather, doctor, hospital board member, Osteopathic license board member, Osteopathic license board member, Cochise County medical advisor, friend, philanthropist, camp counselor and swamp cooler repairman. Dwight was born September 11, 1932 on a farm near Allerton, Iowa. He was the fourth of five children born to Virgil an Bessie Wensel. Dwight attended grade school at East Eden School, a one room school house southeast of Leon. Dwight attended Leon High School and graduated high school in three years, in 1950. On October 6, 1951 Dwight married his high school sweetheart Lois McDaniel. On that day Dwight and Lois formed a partnership that would last forty-nine years. Dwight and Lois had three sons Danny, Brent and Loren. in 1959 Dwight graduated from the University of Kansas City and started his medical training at the Kansas City School of Osteopathy and Surgery. After completing medical school in 1963 Dwight and Lois moved to Tucson, Arizona and in 1964 moved to Bisbee, Arizona to start their medical practice. Dwight retired from his medical practice in 1997. Dwight and Lois enjoyed their retirement spending time with friends and family traveling frequently to Iowa, Missouri, Colorado and around Arizona. In the spring of 1999 Lois was diagnosed with lung cancer and passed in March of 2000. For the last seven years Dwight spent much of his time with his friend and fiancee Sylvia Barfield. They enjoyed each others company very much. Dwight was a loving caring, giving individual that was loved by all that knew him. Truly a life very well lived. Surviving are his son, Dan L. Wensel, Scottsdale, AZ.; granddaughter Dr. Amber Hennenhoefer (Steve), Phoenix, AZ.; grandson Daniel L. Wensel (Terra), Phoenix, AZ.; twin great grandsons Dylan and Logan Hennenhoefer; sister Delores Bethards, Excelsior Springs, MO.; fiance, Sylvia Barfield, Sierra Vista, AZ.; Jack McDaniel of Leon; Jean Davis (Leonard), Stanton, CA.; Carolyn Wilson (Roy), Creighton, Mo., nieces, nephews and many friends. A celebration of Life service was held on November 8, 2009, at the San Jose Baptist Church, Bisbee, AZ. Dwight was laid to rest in the family plot beside Lois, Loren and Brent in Bisbee's Memory Gardens.
