Funeral services for Josephine Wallace, 84, of Phoenix, Ariz., who died Monday, June 17, 2002 at her home, were held Monday, June 24, at Gilbert Chapel in Lovilia. Rev. Gordon Vickery officiated at the services. Interment was at the Hamilton Cemetery.
Josephine was born October 21, 1917 to Maude and Earl Davis in Marion County. She was raised on a farm west of Marysville and graduated from Bussey High School in 1935. She married Irvin Wallace on July 31, 1937. The family moved to Arizona in 1948 to take advantage of the dry climate to improve the health of Irvin and son, Clarence. They owned and operated Dairy Queens in Phoenix, Scottsdale and Cottonwood, Ariz. and in Grinnell and Jefferson, Iowa. Irvin passed away in 1973; Josephine then married Wayne Davis in 1974. She enjoyed sewing, doing volunteer work, gardening and her family - especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was an active member of Asbury United Methodist Church in Phoenix.
She was preceded in death by both husbands; a son, Clarence Wallace; a daughter, Ida May Davis; a great-grandson, Justin Karr; three sisters, Dorothy Hoy, Helen Smith and Genevieve Locker; and a brother, Walter Earl Davis, Jr. She is survived by two daughters and son-in-law, Nona Rankin of Knoxville and Louise and Hubert Yates of Phoenix; a daughter-in-law, Shari Wallace of Chino Valley, Ariz.; two sisters, Mildred Speck and Edna Bonnett both of Iowa; two brothers, Curtis and Howard both of Iowa; 13 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews; and dear friends. Arrangements were made by Gilbert - Boman Funeral Home.
