On Christmas Day Dec. 25, 2010, Darren Enis Moody, 33, went on to the other side of the vial to spend Christmas with Jesus Christ our Savior. He was given this prestigious honor to celebrate Christ birthday.
Darren was born to Theresa (Nosie) Larzelere and the late Daniel Moody April 28, 1977, at the old hospital in Whiteriver. Darren grew up in Whiteriver and East Fork. He graduated from Headstart, eighth grade and Southwest Indian School in Peoria. He completed his freshmen year at the Old Alchesay High School in Whiteriver.
After he graduated from Southwest he immediately enlisted in the United States Marine Corp. He completed his basic training in San Diego, Calif. and was stationed out at Camp La June in N.C. Before he came home from the service he was back at Camp Pendleton. He will be missed by his family, relatives and many friends.
Darren was a bright kid during his growing up years. He was a very smart boy, a very loving person. He was a quiet person, did a lot of poem writing where he expressed a lot of his feelings. Darren enjoyed being outdoors. He use to like camping out on our reservation lakes, fishing, swimming, going to concerts, even going to the movies and slot tournaments at the Casino. He was a basketball player when he was in High School at Southwest Indian School. He enjoyed watching sports such as football and basketball. He was a fan of Arizona Cardinals and Phoenix Suns.
Darren leaves behind his eleven year old son Sage Dylan Moody; mother Theresa (Moody) Larzelere; stepfather Victor Larzelere; sisters: Priscilla Benally, Danielle (Dub) Lionedes Moody; brother Danielson Lyle Moody; nephews: Jonas Velasquez Sayer Moody, Keelon Moody, Cairo Fisher, Kyren Fisher; nieces: Kimberly Gatewood, Tanya Gatewood, Kierra Velasquez, Matallia Moody. He also leaves behind his companion, Julie (Benally) Kinney; grandmothers: Mavis Moody, Ruby C. Harvey, Lorraine Gatewood; along with many aunts, uncles, relatives and friends.
Darren's wake started at 10 a.m. Jan. 6, at the home of his mother Theresa (Moody) Larzelere at Apache Dawn home site (581 Pineneedle Drive) in Hondah. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 8, at the Whiteriver Lutheran Church with Pastor Joel Sutton officiating.
He will be laid to rest at the Family Plot Cemetery in Upper East Fork by his dad Daniel Moody and brother Dana Moody.
