The White Mountain Independent, Show Low, Arizona ~ January 7, 2011 Maria Jeffers, 71, died unexpectedly Jan. 3, 2011, at home with her daughter by her side. She was born in Nuevo Leon, Mexico to Juan and Cleotilde Luna. Maria spent her younger years in Mexico and Texas. While working for Tom Reed at the Reed Ranch near Snowflake, she met her husband, J.C. (Cooney) Jeffers. They resided in Holbrook where they ran the Jeffers Ranch together. They had one daughter Ivah. Maria, along with her daughter ran Ivah's Dress Shop in Holbrook for many years. She loved to paint and spend time with her granddaughters and watch them compete on their horses. She is survived by her daughter, Ivah Jeffers-Sample (Mike); two granddaughters, Ashley and Alexandra of Holbrook; five brothers: Juan Luna of Mexico, Paul Luna of San Antonio, Texas, Adam Luna of Holbrook, Richard Luna of Amarillo, Texas, Pantaleon Luna of Arlington, Texas; two sisters: Teresa Luna of Holbrook, Cleo Commons of Mesa. She was preceded in death by her husband, J.C. Jeffers in 1989 and her parents, Juan and Cleotilde Luna. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 8, at the Assembly of God Church 500 Mission Lane Holbrook with a viewing to begin at 10 a.m. at the same location. Owens Livingston Mortuary of Holbrook handled arrangements.
