Today's News-Herald, Lake Havasu City, Arizona - Published Thursday, January 6, 2011 - Edward H. O’Grady, 87, passed away Dec. 22, 2010 at Havasu Regional Medical Center in Lake Havasu City. He was born Sept. 16, 1923, in Tarrytown, N.Y., to Joseph and Cecilia O’Grady. Ed was the second son of Joseph and Cecilia and grew up on Long Island, married June (nee Reinike) in September 1943, and together they had nine children. During World War II, Edward served in the U.S. Army with the Paratrooper 11th Airborne Division as a S/Sgt. Surgical Technician and was awarded a Bronze Star Medal for action. Before retiring and leaving New York, Ed worked many years as superintendent of New Car Engineering with the New York City Transit Authority. In the fall of 1988, June and Ed moved to Lake Havasu City where they enjoyed the beautiful weather, made many friends and Ed pursued his love of golf. He became active in the Knights of Columbus, serving in several capacities including Grand Knight. Ed was also a faithful volunteer at Our Lady Of the Lake soup kitchen since 2002. Ed is survived by his brothers, Joseph E. O’Grady, of Glen Cove, N.Y., Albert (Ann) O’Grady, of Laurel, Md., and John (Stella) O’Grady, of Port St. Lucie, Fla.; children, June Almas, of Granada Hills, Calif., Joan (C. Kevin) Quill, of Lake Havasu City, Andrea (James) Schroeder, of Patchogue, N.Y., Patrick (Jeanne) O’Grady, of Mebourne, Fla., Sharon O’Grady, of Massapequa, N.Y., Kevin (Barbara) O’Grady, of Ridge, N.Y., Michael O’Grady, of Rockledge, Fla., and Kathleen (Robert) Colwell, of Ridge, N.Y.; 17 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife of 58 years, June; and their infant daughter, Ann. A memorial Mass will be celebrated at noon Jan. 10 by Father Chauncey Winkler at Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church. His ashes will be placed to rest, with his beloved wife at Calverton National Cemetery in New York. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Our Lady of the Lake Building the Church of Tomorrow Fund, 1975 Daytona Dr., LHC. AZ. 86403. Arrangements are under the care of Lake Havasu Mortuary and Crematory.
