Imogene S. Rains was born June 27, 1938, in Bend, Ore. She died peacefully Aug. 26, 2009, at Umpqua Valley Nursing and Rehab in Myrtle Creek. Ore.
Imogene's family moved to Maverick in June 1951, and she was raised until her senior year which she completed at Camelback High School in 1956.
She then attended Phoenix College where she obtained an art degree. She then went to work for APS for 30-plus years. She married Donal K. Rains in 1960 at the Maverick Lutheran Church.
She has two sons, Eugene and Stacy, as well as grandson Matthew (Sylvia) and two great-grandsons Seth and Matthew. She is also survived by two brothers, Lyle Dean (Mary) Smith and Clair (Sharon) Smith, and a sister, Joanne Hutton.
Nieces are Ginger Somers, Cynthia Moya and Jodi Maki, and nephews are Ray Smith, Alan Smith, Larry Smith, Rick Smith, Tim Smith, Eric Smith and Brent Moya.
She was preceded in death by her parents Lyle H. Smith and Rose Anna Smith and son Stacy.
Her interests varied from being an avid league bowler, youth bowling coach, cake decorating, various crafts and gardening. In Myrtle Creek, Ore., her friends knew her as Imy. She was one of the founding members of the Heart of the Umpqua Artists, a chapter of the Society of Decorative Painters. She had resided in Myrtle Creek since 1999.
The Taylor Family Mortuary handled the arrangements. A memorial was held at Evergreen Park in Myrtle Creek, Ore.
