Show Low, Arizona ~ July 30, 2009
Alice Eva Nordstrom Hupp, 83, died peacefully at her home in Concho Friday, July 24, 2009, with her family at her side, following a lengthy illness.
She was born Jan. 29, 1926, in Torch Lake, Mich., to the late John Emil and Eva Elizabeth (Korkko) Hendrickson.
Following her high school graduation, she was given her parents' blessing to marry her high school sweetheart, Douglas Allen Nordstrom. They were married May 6, 1944, in Garden City, Mich.
Immediately following their marriage, the newlyweds moved to Arizona, where they had since resided. Alice was a devoted homemaker to her family and spent her entire life serving their different needs and she loved every moment with them.
Douglas died in 1998, after nearly 54 years of marriage together.
Later, on Oct. 28, 2000, she married Elva Hupp in Tucson and, most recently, they celebrated their ninth wedding anniversary together.
Throughout her long life, Alice enjoyed working with her hands and was quite gifted with several handicraft skills. She especially enjoyed crocheting, quilting, sewing, embroidering, tatting and dabbled quite a bit with ceramics.
Many of her creations, including afghans for each of her children and grandchildren, are treasures decorating their own homes. She loved to make things for her large family and many friends.
Alice lived several years in Tucson where she attended church at Love Divine.
As her health declined, she moved to Concho six years ago to be near her daughter, Susan, who was able to care for her special needs. While living in Concho, she joined Faith Fellowship Church in Concho Valley, where she remained an active member as long as her health permitted her to. She truly will be missed by her entire family as well as countless others who lovingly called her "friend."
Alice's family acknowledges Georgiana Francis, Chris Mains and Jana Thomas from Hospice Compassus, who so lovingly gave extreme and excellent care to their mother since March of this year, care that made Alice's last few months comfortable and peaceful.
Alice is survived by her husband, Elva Hupp of Tucson; three children, Richard (Theresa) Nordstrom, Sr. of Tucson, Doreen A. (Ralph) Campbell of McLeansboro, Ill., and Susan (William) Webby of Concho; stepson Brad (LaDonna) Hupp of Tucson; and 12 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.
Along with her first husband, Douglas, she was preceded in death by two sons, Bruce Nordstrom in 1980 and Keith Nordstrom in 1995.
At this time private family services will be held, however, her family invites anyone who would like to send condolences or sign the guest book to visit www.owenslivingstonmortuary.com.
"Thanks for caring so much for this sweet gem of a lady."
Owens Livingston Mortuary of Show Low handled the arrangements.
