YOUNG, Charles Edward (Charlie)


The White Mountain Independent, Show Low, Arizona ~ August 6, 2009 Charles Edward "Charlie" Young died Thursday evening, July 30, 2009, at Summit Healthcare Regional Medical Center in Show Low, following a lengthy illness. He was 59 years old. Charlie was born May 16, 1950, in Tampa, Fla., to the late Fred Lewis and Iris Perry (Cone) Young. He graduated from King High School in Tampa, Fla., in 1968. A few years later, Charlie enlisted in the U.S. Army and served during the Vietnam War. He was inducted in to the Army Feb. 19, 1970, and was honorably discharged on Feb. 18, 1976. On March 22, 1986, he married Sylvia Scott in San Mateo, Fla., and, unfortunately, their marriage later ended in divorce. On Dec. 13, 1995, he married Deborah Joan Toth in Snowflake. As a young man, Charlie worked as an iron worker for several years in Kissimmee, Fla., at the Epcot Center and MGM Studios there. After moving to Arizona 20 years ago, he began working at Snowflake's paper mill where he spent countless hours as a millwright. Charlie loved being outside where some of his greatest joys were spent on the golf course. He excelled in golf and many called him an expert player. He also enjoyed hunting in the great outdoors with his family and his hunting buddies. This kind hearted man will be missed by all who knew him and grew to call him "friend." Non, however, will miss him more than his family. Charlie is survived by his wife, Deborah Joan "Debbie" Young of Snowflake; four children, Rebecca Detamore of Jane Lew, W.Va., Ashley (Jeramie) Buccholz of Show Low, Timothy Michael Toth of Hoover, Ala., and Lauren Elizabeth (Christopher) Thomas of Palatka, Fla.; sister Louanna (Dan) King of Winterhaven, Fla.; two nieces, Kelley (Tim) Murrow of Tampa, Fla., and Jennifer King of Winterhaven, Fla.; two nephews, Kevin (Kristina) Young of Gainesville, Fla., and Brian King of Winterhaven, Fla.; and his former wife, Sylvia Young of Palatka, Fla. He was preceded in death by his father, Fred Young (July 30, 1961); mother Iris Cone Young (Jan. 28, 1996) and his brother, James Young (1997). A public visitation will be held from 6-8 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 6, at Owens Livingston Mortuary, Heritage Chapel, 84 E. 19th South in Snowflake. Funeral service will begin at 10 a.m. Friday, Aug. 7, at Valley View Baptist Church, 1212 W. Main St. in Snowflake where Pastor Bob Seymour will officiate. Military honors will immediately follow the service at the church. Memorial contributions in his name have been suggested to St. Jude's Children Hospital Cancer Research Department have been suggested by his family.
