The White Mountain Independent, Show Low, Arizona ~ August 10, 2009 Carolyn Helen Gonzales of Holbrook died July 30, 2009, in Flagstaff. She was born Sept. 4, 1949, in San Bernardino, Calif., to Alfejo and Mabel (Jones) Montano. A loving wife, mother, grandmother and foster parent, she will be missed by all. She attended the St. Joseph Catholic School in Winslow and on May 21, 1978, she married Ed Gonzales. Carolyn dedicated her life to helping others. She was an active member of Narcotics Anonymous where she enjoyed 21 years of recovery. She was a member of the NA home group, NA NavApache Area Service Committee, and attended two NA World Conferences as an NA regional delegate for the state of Arizona. She was a past president of the Church Council for Peace Lutheran Church in Holbrook. Carolyn was nominated as Holbrook "Woman of The Year" in 2008. She also worked as a volunteer for the Bread of Life Mission homeless shelter. Carolyn is survived by husband, Ed Gonzales of Holbrook; three sons, Joe Montoya of Anaheim, Calif., Chris Gonzales of Holbrook and Michael Martinez of Winslow; three daughters, Stacy Montoya of Avondale, Tracy Montoya of Holbrook and Kimberly Montoya of Avondale; 19 grandchildren, Tiffany Montoya, Kathryn Montoya, David Moser, Daniel Bailon, Steffen Bailon, John Gonzales, Anthony Petranovich, Samantha Montoya, Riannon Montoya, Matthew Blaskovic, Nick Montoya, Somer Montoya, Adrian Montoya, Angel Ruiz, Damian Herrera, Deztiny Herrera, Mekai Roquemore, Mykailah Montoya and Divaiyne Felix, three great-grandchildren, Alisyana Mattox, Aleaya Mattox and Sunshine Ryan; two brothers, Robert Montano of San Francisco, Calif., and Steve (Betty) Montano of Cottonwood; three sisters, Gwen (Jim) Valdavia of Escondido, Calif., Toni Montano of Winslow and Teri Conwell of Henderson, Nev. She was preceded in death by her parents, sister Yolanda and nephew David Tyler. A funeral Mass will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 15, at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church, 212 E. Arizona, in Holbrook, immediately following a memorial service to be held in the Our Lady of Guadalupe Family Center directly across the street from the church.
