Theresa Adriana Nicolas, 66, of Romblon Beach, Philippines, died Monday, Aug. 10, 2009, at a Phoenix hospital after falling ill while visiting family in Cibecue.
She was born April 30, 1943, in the Philippines, the daughter of Jose and Estrella (Riva) Delacruz. She was raised and attended school in Romblon, graduating from Romblon National High School in 1959.
She earned a bachelor of education degree from the Philippines Normal College in 1963. She was a dedicated teacher at the Romblon Elementary School for45 years until her retirement in 2008.
She married Alexander Nicolas Dec. 13, 1970. She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Romblon, the Philippines National Teachers Board and the Baseball League.
She enjoyed reading pocket books, word search puzzles, crossword puzzles and traveling.
Survivors include two daughters, Alexis Theresa Malayo ( Jermel) of Romblon and Adrianne (Joselo) Thea Tan of Cibecue; four sisters, Cynthia Amor Hutcheson of Missouri, Estrella Delacruz of the Philippines, Grace Gabales of Australia and LaReyna Delacruz of the Philippines; two brothers, Jose Maria Delacruz and Jose Candellario Delacruz, both of the Philippines; and five grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, sister Judy Diaz and brother Jose Delacruz.
A viewing was held Sunday, Aug. 16, at Black's Mortuary. A Mass was celebrated with Father Eddie Fronske officiating in the chapel of Black's Mortuary.
Arrangements were under the direction of Black's Mortuary.
