Janet (Barnes) Meyer, 78, died Aug. 23, 2009, in Phoenix. She was born May 8, 1931, in Cincinnati, Ohio, to Francis Arnold and Helen Edell (Steinhauser) Barnes and was raised in Aurora, Ind., before moving to Phoenix in 1946.
She graduated from North Phoenix High School in 1949. On Dec. 26, 1951, she married Thomas Willard Meyer, who preceded her in death May 17, 1997.
To this union four children were born, Rochelle (J. Patrick) Riordan, Corinne (Lawrence Randall) Marchiori, Christopher Thomas Meyer and Jennifer Ann (Scott) Gibson. Six grandchildren and one great-grandson also survive.
Tom and Janet moved to Pinetop in 1967 where they owned and operated the Pinetop Country Store for many years. Janet was very active in the Pinetop-Lakeside community.
She was a founding member of the Humane Society of the White Mountains, a volunteer at the Navopache Hospital Auxiliary and the St. Vincent de Paul Society.
She was an avid bridge player and had many friends in the area.
She was preceded in death by a brother, Burton Francis Barnes.
Services were private with interment in Holy Cross Cemetery in Avondale.
