MASSEY, JR.,
Guy
The White Mountain Independent,
Show Low, Arizona ~ August 31, 2009
Guy Massey Jr. entered into eternal rest Aug. 25, 2009, at the Arizona Heart Institute in Phoenix. He was born Jan. 6, 1941, to Guy Massey Sr. and Alberta Burnette Massey in Cedar Creek.
Guy attended Theodore Roosevelt School and Show Low High School. He earned an associate of applied science from Northland Pioneer College.
In his early years, he worked for the Southwest Forest Industries at the saw mills in Maverick and McNary. Later he worked with the Bureau of Indian Affairs-Branch of Forestry as a chief fire dispatcher where he retired after 30 years. He was a District IV Tribal Council member and served on the Whiteriver School Board for 14 years.
His relatives remember him as a generous man, giving of his time and resources, ready to lend a hand. His children remember him as a loving and caring father, giving of himself and always there.
His grandchildren remember the times they spent fishing, cooking out and driving in the woods while he told them stories of his childhood. His great-grandchildren will know him through those stories and through the memories his children have.
The Massey, Burnette, Malone, Ethelbah, Cosay and Paxson families would like to extend their appreciation and their welcome.
Guy is survived by his children, Rowena Massey of Mesa, Aaron (Virginia) Massey, Ruth Key and Darwin Massey; seven grandsons, Abbron, Tyron, Fergueson, Eric, Joshua, Lyle and Jay; granddaughter Alberta; five great-grandchildren; and one traditional god-daughter, Sheridee Susan.
His body was brought back to his daughter Ruth Key's residence at North Rainbow City Sunday, Aug. 30, for a one-night wake. Home services were held Monday, Aug. 31, with Pastor Timothy Hinton officiating.
Interment was held at the Mourning Dove Cemetery in Cedar Creek.
