Afton Star-Enterprise, Afton, Iowa February 20, 2003 Rose Joy Anderson, 71, Dies Rose Joy Anderson, the daughter of Joy Arthur and Alta Bernadine Pitkin, was born October 30, 1931 on her parents’ farm one-half mile northwest of Arispe, and died Wednesday, Dec. 4, 20002 at her home in Brayton, at the age of 71 years, one month and four days. Rose was baptized and confirmed at the Exira Lutheran Church in Exira. She attended rural school near their farm, then graduated from the Arispe High School with the Class of 1949. During high school she was an active basketball player, and was nicknamed “Double Ought Buckshot,” for her jersey number, 00. She also played the piano and loved music during her high school years. Rose was a homemaker for many years. On Nov. 23, 1974, she was united in marriage to Richard L. Anderson, at the Brayton Lutheran Church in Brayton. Rose was employed as a secretary and bookkeeper at Overland Plaza at the Valley, south of Brayton for a short time, then helped manage Richard’s painting business. They retired in 1991. Rose and Richard cherished spending their winters in Quartzsite, Arizona, where they have many loving friends and family. They they would spend their summers at their home in Brayton. Rose was a member of the Exira Lutheran Church. She loved sewing, craft making, quilt making and playing the organ. Preceding her n death were her grandson, Jeffrey Joy Page; her daughter-in-law Rosemary Paige, her parents; her sister Helen Webster; her brother, Wayne Pitkin; and her parents-in-law Ejler and Christina Anderson. Survivors include her husband, Richard L. Anderson of Brayton; their children; Daniel Paige of Rodgers, Minn., Rich Paige of New Virginia; Jo Griswold of Antioch, Calif., Patti and husband Jeff Wilson of Adair, Kathy Paige of Shelby, Tom Anderson of Avoca, Richard M. Anderson and wife Charlotte of Hays, Kan., and Teresa Brown of Anita; and children; 19 great-grandchildren; her sister and husband, Elsie and Bob Roberts of Okeechobee, Fla., her sisters-in-law, Veda Larsen of Audbon, Lola Bennett of Quartzsite, Ariz., Delores Anderson of Brayton and Florence Anderson of Waukee; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Funeral services were conducted by Pastor Bill Embree on Monday, Dec. 9, at the Exira Lutheran church. Interment will be in the Exira Cemetery. The Kessler Funeral Home in Exira was in charge of arrangements.
