CHARLES CITY, IOWA - Mary Kay O'Dowd, 65, of Greene, Iowa died Wednesday, Nov. 24, 2010, at John C. Lincoln Deer Valley Hospital in Phoenix, Arizona. Funeral services for Mary Kay O'Dowd will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 4, at the New Life Community Church. Pastor Rod Rindell will officiate. Inurnment will be at a later date in Pleasant Grove Cemetery rural Greene. Friends may call at the Hauser Funeral Home in Charles City from 5-8 p.m. Friday, Dec. 3, and Saturday, Dec. 4, at the church an hour prior to the service.
Mary Kathryn Baltes O'Dowd was born March 22, 1945, at New Hampton, the daughter of Norbert and Anna Mae (Rodamaker) Baltes. She graduated from Immaculate Conception School and Mason City School of Cosmetology.
On August 10, 1963, she was united in marriage to David O'Dowd. They farmed south of Charles City all their lives and over the years Mary Kay was a cosmetologist for a time and worked at Mercy Hospital and for Slinger Chiropractic. She was a member of New Life Community Church. Her interests included music, singing, gardening, reading, cooking and working crossword puzzles. She also looked forward to spending winters in Arizona. Mary Kay's family, especially her grandchildren, were always very important to her and she took every opportunity to share her life with them.
Living family members include her husband of 47 years, David O'Dowd of Greene; four children, Barry and Jon O'Dowd of Phoenix, Ariz., James O'Dowd of Greene and Erin O'Dowd of Dodge Center, Minn.; three grandchildren, Matthew, Carter and Isabelle O'Dowd; two brothers, Jack (Virginia) Baltes of Circle Pines, Minn., and Robert "Bob" (Rose) Baltes of New Hampton; six sisters, LaVonne Snider of Montana, Ann (Bill) Kennedy of Washington, Evelyn (Ron) Simon of Alabama, Rosalie Owens of Florida, Patricia (Jerry) Rochford of Charles City and Deborah (David) Merrill of Mount Vernon; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents. Memorials may be directed to the family. The Hauser Funeral Home, in Charles City, is in charge of arrangements.
