Ruth Barkema, 63, Jewell, Iowa died Saturday, March 24, 1990 in Scottsdale, Arizona. Funeral services were held Friday, March 30, at 10:30 a.m. at the Bethesda Lutheran Church in Jewell, Rev. Lee Laaveg officiating. Burial was in the Evergreen Cemetery, Jewell. Memorial funds for the Bethesda Lutheran Church and Hospice hae been established.

Ruth Amanda Thoreson, daughter of Adolf and Amanda Lindebak Thoreson, was born Dec. 6, 1926, in Ellsworth. She married Donald Barkema on Nov. 5, 1944, at the Little Brown Church in Nashua. She is survived by her husband, Don, Jewell; two daughters, Diane Martin, Raymore, Mo., and Vicki Smith, Jewell; three brothers, Curtis Thoreson, W. H. Thoreson and Bill Thoreson, all of Ellsworth, and Donald Thoreson, Clear Lake. She was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers and a sister in infancy.
