The White Mountain Independent, Show Low, Arizona ~ March 26, 2009 Nellie Curtis Thomas, 62, died March 22, 2009, in Phoenix after a courageous battle with cancer. She was born Jan. 10, 1947, in Sand Spring to George Donald Curtis and Mary Yellowhair. Nellie was a great wife and mother who was loved by all who knew her. She worked in the Show Low School District for 10 years. She was a good caregiver to others, especially the children at school. Nellie is survived by her husband, Benny Thomas; five children, Arnold Thomas Sr., Amos Thomas, Herschel Thomas, Connie Thomas and Brenda Lee Groeneveld; two brothers, Leroy and John Curtis; and eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. A visitation will be held noon, Monday, March 30, at the Show Low Stake Center of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints with the funeral service beginning at 1 p.m. Interment will follow in the Show Low Cemetery. In lieu of flowers the family has asked that donations be made to the family to help with incurred expenses. Owens Livingston Mortuary of Holbrook handled the arrangements.
