Wickenburg Sun, Wickenburg, Arizona March 30, 1989, page 2-A Services are scheduled at 11 a.m. Wednesday, April 5, at the Wickenburg Funeral Home for James Austin Fender, 79, of Wickenburg. Mr. Fender died March 22 in Wickenburg Community Hospital. Dr. Leo McDaniel will officiate. Mr. Fender was born Jan. 16, 1910 in Coral, Mich. He had lived in Arizona for the past 24 years. He was retired from owning and operating a motel in Roscommon, Mich. He worked as a carpenter most of his life in Coral and Detroit, and was also a vault maker. He was a life member of the Eagles No. 2031 in Roscommon, and a member of the school board in Coral. He served as a volunteer driver for the Red Cross in Wickenburg, and held the position of treasurer on the board for the Wise owl. He was preceded in death by a son, Bernard Robert and a sister, Claris Olson. Survivors include his wife, Erma, of Wickenburg; three sons, Charles, of Ypsilanti, Mich., John, of Foley, Ala. and Vernon Robart, of Casanova, Mich.; three daughter, Alice Merrifield, of Garden City, Mich., Margaret Zimmerman, of Big Rapids, Mich. and Thelma Stuart, of Fruitport, Mich.; four sisters, Marion Greenberg of Coral, Grace Parker of Hob Sound, Fla., Ruth Bothmley of Gasville, Ark., and Melvina Wilkins of Punta Gorda, Fla.; 22 grandchildren and 26 great-grandchildren.
