Private cremation was conducted for Robert Louis Bernhardt, St., 70, of Congress, who died May 1 in the Wickenburg Nursing Home.
Mr. Bernhardt was born Nov. 19, 1918 in Sterling, Colo. He had lived in Arizona for the past 20 years.
He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II and received the Purple heart for wounds in that war.
He later worked for the U.S. Forest Service in the Shasta Trinity Forest of Northern California, where he was foreman of the Redding, Calif., “hot-shot” fire crew; and was also foreman of erosion control and reforestation in that area.
Mr. Bernhardt is survived by his wife, Nora, of Congress; two sons, Robert Bernhardt, Jr. and Larry Bernhardt, both of Congress; a daughter, Sue Bernhardt of Congress; two sisters, Frances Franck of California and Violet Cole of Nebraska; a brother, Ray Bernhardt of Missouri; one grandson; five great-granddaughters and several nieces and nephews.
Arrangements were under the direction of the Wickenburg Funeral Home.
