BERDINE, Russell Dewey


Russell Dewey BERDINE, son of Pansy Amelia (PIERSON) and Earl Dewey BERDINE was born January 25, 1927 in Spring Valley, Minnesota. Russell attended high school in Council Bluffs and then joined the service in the U.S. Navy. After his discharge from the Navy, he came to Shannon City to visit his folks and remained there. Russell was united in marriage to Donna Lee RUCKMAN on August 13, 1949 in Afton. He was an over the road trucker for twenty-eight years, coast-to-coast and moved to Diagonal in 1973 where he also farmed. After he quit trucking, he became branch manager of the First State Bank in January of 1978 in Shannon City, where he served eight years, retiring due to poor health. In 1998 they moved to Creston. They spent the winters in Arizona for twenty years and sold out last year due to poor health. Russell was a member of the Shannon City Methodist Church; American Legion Post #0395 of Diagonal and was a member of the negotiating team with the Local Union # 147. Russell is survived by his wife Donna of Creston; three daughters: Jacki (husband David) GIBBONS of Murray; Jerri KILPATRICK (Curt DECKER) of Thayer; Cindy (husband Eric) HILL of Afton; eight grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren; two brothers: James (wife Bessie) BERDINE of Shannon City; Earl (wife Jackie) BERDINE of Bella Vista, AK and one sister: Juanita BUBLITZ of Nicollet, Minnesota. Russell was preceded in death by his parents, his son Terry in 1986 and a brother Robert in infancy.
