Helen Manz, 90, was born on April 24, 1920 in Richmond, Ind. She passed away on Sunday, Jan. 9, 2011, under the loving care of the Arizona Pioneer Home.
Helen Patterson Wilson first came to Prescott in 1928. At that time, she lived in the historic district off of Coronado Avenue. The neighborhood kids included little Richard Nixon. Over the next several years, she and her mother and sister would move back and forth between Phoenix, Laguna, Hollywood and San Francisco.
Helen would ultimately keep coming back to Phoenix to the love of her life, Carl Manz. They were finally married in 1955 and lived on their Phoenix dairy until 1965 when the new I-17 freeway went through their farm. At that time, they moved to Prescott where Carl became a beekeeper.
Helen enjoyed singing in the Hollywood Bowl Chorus, The University of Arizona Choir and the Yavapai College Community Chorale under Jim Burns. She sang in the Trinity Presbyterian Choir for about 35 years. Trinity was a big part of Helen and Carl's life.
Helen is survived by two children, Carol Manz and Paul Manz and his wife Sheryl; her sister, Marjorie Armstrong; Marjorie's three boys, Brad, John and Bill, and their families.
The family would like to express its appreciation to the Arizona Pioneer Home for their loving care, continuous diligence and consideration of the family. They would also like to thank the staff of Yavapai Regional Medical Center and the Family Hospice Care for all they've done. Prescott is truly fortunate to have these wonderful entities in its midst.
A Memorial service will be at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 15, 2011 at the Trinity Presbyterian Church in Prescott. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that donations be made in Helen's name to the Trinity Presbyterian Church music department, 630 Park Ave., Prescott, AZ 86303.
Hampton Funeral Home was entrusted with the arrangements. Please visit www.hamptonfuneralhome.com to sign Helen's guestbook.
