Mary Elizabeth MacDonald Rodes died Jan. 6, 2011. She was born Sept. 22, 1913 in Darlington, S.C. to John and Harriet MacDonald. She had lived in Chino Valley since 1995. Previously, she lived in Tucson, Ariz. for 39 years.
She was an elementary school teacher who was always admired by her students because she could hit a homerun when playing softball with her class. She grew up and went to school in St. Petersburg, Fla., receiving her Junior College degree at St. Petersburg Junior College and her Bachelor's degree from the University of Florida at Gainesville. She attended graduate school at Columbia University. She taught in Florida, North Carolina and Tucson, Ariz. She was a life long learner who loved to travel. She also was a singer who delighted in singing in the choirs of all the churches she attended.
Mary was preceded in death by her husband, Arthur D. Rodes; her grandsons, Brian Long and Rodes Allen Hudson.
She is survived by her daughter, Glenna Hudson (Dale); her grandson, James Rodes Hudson (Franceen); great grandsons, Jeremy Long and Kolton Wayne Hudson; great granddaughters, Sophia and Savette Hudson; and many nieces and nephews.

Services will be 2 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 16. 2011 at the Prescott Unitarian Universalist Fellowship, 945 Rancho Vista Drive, Prescott.
