The White Mountain Independent, Show Low, Arizona ~ March 9, 2009 In loving memory of Phyllis Lee Hammerbacker (Hardy) who died Jan. 19, 2009. She was born Jan. 11, 1927, in Eureka Springs, Ark. Phyllis lived in Eureka Springs and worked in her family's restaurant "Hardy's Cafe." She graduated high school and was a lifelong member of the local Assembly of God church. She went on to become an evangelist, ordained minister and appointed home missionary to the American Indians of the Assemblies of God. During 50 years of Christian ministry, she did evangelism ministry, co-pastored and helped build American Indian churches in Red Rock, Okla., Tuba City and Bita Hochee and Wapato, Wash. She is survived by her daughter, Janis L. Wiseman of Issaquah, Wash.; grandchildren Ray R. Wiseman of Yakima, Wash., P. Rene Perry of Issaquah, Wash., and H. Ruth Walls of Openlousas, La.; great-grandchildren Rebecca Ethan and Jessica Wiseman, Nathan Allen and Brooke, Brittany and Zachary Walls of Alissa; sister Charlene Dawson of Oklahoma City, Okla.; and longtime friend and co-pastor, Helen Burgess. She was preceded in death by father, George Riley Hardy, and mother Delia May Hardy (Williams), husband Clyde Hammerbacke, brother George P. Hardy and sister Rita Wright. A memorial service will be held March 28 at 10:30 a.m. at the Harrah Assembly of God in Harrah, Wash.
