The White Mountain Independent, Show Low, Arizona ~ March 26, 2009 Velma "Mickey" Holland Moore died March 14, 2009, in Waddell. She was born Aug. 23, 1919, in Phoenix. She lived in Waddell and was a resident of Pinetop. She died after a battle with Alzheimer's. A Phoenix native, she was born Aug. 23, 1919. She served in the Coast Guard during WW II and excelled as a bookkeeper, farmer, angler, gardener and chef. She was a past president of Women's Golf Associations for Wigwam Country Club and White Mountain CC and two-time hole-in-one golfer. Her love for everyone and unyielding spirit will live on in all who met her. Mickey is survived by her best friend and husband of 62 years, Bob (Robert W. Moore); sisters Marie Mundy of Litchfield Park and Joan Wilcox of Phoenix; children Michael Moore of Waddell, Melinda Thomas of Tempe and Sharon Roberson of Pflugerville, Texas; six grandchildren and five great-grandchildren; her Lab, Chrissy; and countless lifelong friends. A celebration of Mickey's life will be held later this spring in Pinetop. Memorials may be sent to Open Arms Home for Children at www.openarmshome.com, or Hospice of the Valley in Phoenix.
