Edwards (May 10, 1916 - January 11, 2011) Ann M. Edwards, 95, of Show Low passed away Tuesday, January 11, 2011, in Lakeside. She was born May 10, 1916, in Hartford, CT. She and her two siblings were raised by her aunt and uncle. Ann had a lot of fun growing up and remembered climbing trees and fences. She thought school life was alright, but she was more interested in working. She went to work early (around age 12) so she could make some money. She cleaned houses, yards and just about anything else. It was better than just sitting around doing nothing. She didn’t go to high school, making money was more important at the time. Later on, she went to night school. She saved money for later on, for a day like today (living in assisted living). She always had to make money to pay the bills. Bills came first. She never had an unpaid bill in her life. Always concerned with earning her own keep, Ann got out onto her own early. She felt like she could make money and get out. She knew there was going to be a day where she had to get out of the house and she didn’t want to impose on anybody. “When you grow up, you’ve got to find a way out of the house, not into the house” she stated. That is what she and Roger both did. She moved to Santa Monica, CA in 1943. She was married to Roger Edwards on October 4, 1953 in California. They lived in San Diego for 5 years. Ann and Roger moved to Show Low in 1968, where they owned the Dairy Queen. They also bought and sold several properties around Show Low. She was a member of the Eastern Star. She is survived by her husband of 57 years, Roger of Lakeside. Memorial services will be held at 11:00 A.M., Saturday, January 22, at the Masonic Lodge, 741 E. Whipple, Show Low.
