Harvey G. Travis, age 83, a 12-year resident of Laughlin, Nev., went home to God on Saturday, January 8, 2011, in Las Vegas, Nev., surrounded by family and friends, after battling cancer for several years.
Harvey was born on July 21, 1927, in Breckenrige, Pa., and was raised in New Bethlehem, Pa. He proudly served in the Navy during World War II.
He spent the first half of his life working in the natural gas transmission fields where his love of nature blossomed and remained with him throughout his life. The second half, he spent in sunny, warm California and Nevada.
Harvey's dedication to helping others, and his community involvement, endeared him to everyone he met. His smile and hugs could not be matched.
His many community involvements included Police and sportsmen organizations, as well as American Legion and Eagles. His later work included organizations such as Senior Centers, Senior Olympics, and Meals on Wheels.
Harvey was a much loved husband, father, grandfather, uncle and friend.
A celebration of Harvey's life is being planned for Laughlin, Nev. and Southern California.
Harvey will be missed by many.
