The Verde Independent, Cottonwood, AZ Thursday, January 13, 2011 Ruth Kirby (1931-2011) Ruth Melugin Kirby passed away January 4, 2011, at the age of 79. She was born in Paducah, Kentucky, on November 20, 1931. Ruth graduated from Glendale High School and went on to Arizona State College in Flagstaff, where she became a teacher. She taught for 30 years then went on to write children’s books. Ruth loved volunteering at the library and hanging out with her grandkids. Ruth and her husband, Kit, were residents of the Verde Valley for over 30 years having also lived in Flagstaff, Phoenix and Prescott. Ruth had a very strong Christian faith which guided her through trials and everyday life. The angels are rejoicing with a new member of the choir. Ruth leaves behind her loving husband of 56 years, Kit along with daughters Lisa (David) Larson of Canada, Keri (Steve) Adickes of Phoenix and Melanie (Bill) Schwartz of Cottonwood. She is also survived by 9 grandchildren Michael, Brittni, Whitney, Danielle, Nicole, Billy, David, Jesse and Joel. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, January 15 at 1 p.m. at the Evangel Worship Center, 1380 E. Mingus Avenue in Cottonwood. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to House of Ruth Pregnancy Care Center or the Verde Valley Humane Society. Information provided by survivors.
