James W. "Skeeter" Johnston, 94, died in Eagar Jan. 18, 2009. James was born Aug. 6, 1914, in Lookeba, Okla.
James moved to Avondale in 1920. He played baseball at Litchfield High School and coached the American Legion team for 20 years in Tolleson. He served in various community and church activities.
James retired from Waddell Ranch where he was known and respected by co-workers and friends.
He is survived by his two sons, John (Marie) Johnston of Eagar and Wes (Pat) Johnston of Spring, Texas, and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife of over 70 years, Jane Johnston.
Graveside services were held at the Eagar Cemetery Jan. 22. A reception followed services at the residence of John Johnston in Eagar.
James' family wishes to acknowledge the caregivers of the Friendship House. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Friendship House in Eagar.
