Arizona Daily Sun, Flagstaff, AZ Sunday, January 16, 2011 James R. Anderson, 80, of Flagstaff, died Monday, Jan. 10, 2011, under the care of The Peaks Assisted Living in Flagstaff. Mr. Anderson was born on May 9, 1930, in Breckenridge, Texas, to James William and Bessie Mae (Francis) Anderson. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. Mr. Anderson and his wife, Betty Lou, founded the Jim Anderson Jewelry store in Flagstaff in 1972. Today, the jewelry store still operates under his name and is operated by his family. He was very active in the community, he was a member of the Flagstaff Jaycees, Masonic Lodge, Elks Lodge, Lions Club, Shriners, Jesters, Flagstaff Chamber of Commerce and the American Legion. In his off time and into retirement, he loved to travel all over the world with his family. He also enjoyed to fish as much as he could. Mr. Anderson is survived by his daughters, Mary (Fernando) DeLeon of Flagstaff and Lin Mickelsen of Cottonwood; his son, William Ronald Anderson of Tolleson; sister Dorothy King of Cottonwood; four grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; and his long-time companion, Beth Ann Hartsfield. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife Betty Lou Anderson; and son-in-law Brian Mickelsen. Mr. Anderson's family would like to thank The Peaks staff at the memory care unit and skilled nursing facility for their loving care during the last few months of Mr. Anderson's life.
