BAER, Carol

The White Mountain Independent, Show Low, Arizona ~ March 12, 2010 Carol Baer, 75, died March 10, 2010, in McComb, Miss. She was born July 21,1935, in Dallas, Texas. The clouds parted briefly and the sun came out for a few minutes to mark the passing of Carol. She was with her two daughters, Barbara Feind and Janet Keohane, son-in-law Dr. Carl R. (Kel) Feind and her four shelties, Becca, Annie pie, Samantha and Dancer. Carol was a retired public schoolteacher, world traveler and lifelong Buddhist. She was diagnosed with ovarian cancer while living in Bloomington, Ind., four years ago. After surgery and chemo she realized that enough was enough and enrolled in the hospice program in Bloomington nearly two years ago. Last year she made her final trip to McComb to live out her life with Barbara and Kel. She had a great year in Mississippi. She spent many evenings at Ruby Tuesday, where she was fond of leaving exorbitant tips to enthusiastic young waiters. She enjoyed going to Fernwood country club and getting in the pool last summer. She enjoyed watching the Lakers win the NBA championship last year and she was excited to vote for and see the election of Barack Obama. Carol, or the Dali Mama as she was fondly known by those closest to her, spent her last burst of energy spending time at the hospital's physical therapy and cardiac rehab centers with her newest friend, LuBertha Nathaniel. The two of them would work out together then come back to the house, have a glass of lemonade, feed the dogs, then look for a basketball game to watch on TV. "We will miss her very, very much." She is survived by her daughters Barbara Feind and Janet Keohane.
