Jack C. Smith, 76, of Camp Verde, died April 30, 2005. He was born Nov. 17, 1928, in Ringland, Okla.
He attended schools in Ringland and Yuma.
He was a veteran of the Army.
Mr. Smith was retired from Phelps Dodge Mining Corporation in Ajo. He previously had been a heavy equipment truck driver, farmed and worked in furniture and appliance sales.
He was a member of the Cottonwood Assembly of God Church and served as a Sunday School teacher, youth leader, board member and secretary and treasurer. He and his wife traveled to Mexico to assist in the building of churches with Daniel Predra of Paulden and was also a counselor and speaker. He enjoyed rock and gem collecting, golf, gardening and entertaining guests.
Mr. Smith Leaves his wife of 53 years, Betty Fay Smith; a son, D. Wayne Smith of Fontana, Wis.; two daughters, Jill Scott, of Nevada, and Nita Nordstrom, of Ohio; brothers, Wendell, of Yuma, Doris Ray, of Phoenix, and J.B. Smith, of San Luis, Mexico; sister Bertha Tipton; six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by brothers Bill Smith, Elmer "Punk" Smith and George Smith, and sisters Florence "Flossie" Dalton and Lilly Penn.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, May 14, in the Cottonwood Assembly of God Church at 3 p.m. VFW Post 7400 will provide the honors.
