ELDER, B. David


The Verde Independent, Cottonwood, AZ May 10, 2005 David Elder B. David Elder died May 3, 2005, at the age of 74. David was born July 22, 1930, in Welch, Okla., to Bliss D. and Cecil Elder. He was raised in Chetopa, Kan., where he spent his youth working in the family business. In 1954, David moved to Riverside, Calif., where he began working for Riverside Cement as a laborer in the quarry. In 1970 Elder transferred to the Clarkdale plant, which is now Phoenix Cement, where he worked for a total of 43 years. During that time he advanced to Maintenance Field & Shop supervisor and retired in 2000. In 1995 he and his wife moved to Camp Verde. He enjoyed old country music, weight lifting and riding motorcycles. He was an avid outdoorsman that enjoyed fishing, camping and animals, especially his dogs. After retiring he especially enjoyed gardening and visiting friends. Elder was preceded in death by his father, mother and only sister. He is survived by his wife of 38 years, Dixie Elder, of Camp Verde; his children David Wayne Elder, of Eugene, Ore., Theresa Carlton, of Sacramento, Calif., and Candice King, of Torrence, Calif.; step-children Christi Myers and Dawn Jones, of Cottonwood, Richard Peterson and Loy Bowman, of Port Angeles, Wash., Cindy Trewern, of Tucson, and Paul Bowman, of San Leandro, Calif. He had 16 grand children and six great-grandchildren. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Human Society. Funeral services will be Thursday, May 12, at Westcott Funeral Home in Cottonwood.
