WABEKE, Betty Jeanne

The Verde Independent, Cottonwood, AZ May 18, 2005 Betty Jeanne Wabeke, 82, of Owatonna, died Saturday, May 14, 2005, at Cedarview Nursing Home in Owatonna, Minn. She was born Aug. 1, 1922, in Minneapolis, the daughter of John and Alma (Roose) Bender. She was baptized, confirmed and married at Salem Lutheran Church in Minneapolis. Betty attended the Elliot Fisher Bookkeeping School in Minneapolis. Betty Bender married Arie Wabeke on Aug. 6,1944, in Minneapolis. Betty worked as a bookkeeper at various places such as Cashman's Federated Ins. and Sears. At one time, she also worked at Cedarview as a nurse's aide. Betty operated a home day care for many years. Betty loved to golf, read and sew, especially cross-stitching. Her favorite food as a child was Grandma Roose's coffeecake, and Betty always loved her childhood dog, Zipper. She enjoyed spending time with her great-grandchildren at Cedarview. She is survived by her son, John (Nancy) Wabeke, of Cottonwood; three daughters Barb (Terry) Condit, of Morristown, Minn., Pat (Ernie) Zeise, of Owatonna, and Wilma "Willie" (Gary) Volkmann, of Owatonna; nine grandchildren; four step-grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren nine step-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Arie, two sisters, Wilma Bender and Peggy Bender, and one granddaughter. A memorial service will be held Wednesday, May 18, at 10:30 a.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church in Owatonna. The Reverend John Lestock of Trinity Lutheran Church will be officiating. Burial will be in Fort Snelling National Cemetery. Memorials are preferred to Cedarview Nursing Home Activity Fund, 1409 S. Oak Ave., Owatonna MN 55060.
