Arizona Daily Sun, Flagstaff, AZ Monday, January 17, 2011 Jean Antonia Malovic Kent, 84, died peacefully on Jan. 12, 2011, surrounded by family. She was born Jan. 8, 1927. She traveled from her hometown of Cleveland, Ohio, to northern Arizona on the Santa Fe Railroad in 1949, fell in love with Flagstaff and stayed. She was employed at the Navajo Army Depot. She married Jerry Kent and together they opened The Spudnut Shop, growing the business into Kent's Bakery on Beaver Street. After selling the business in 1970, the family moved out of state. She and Mr. Kent returned to Arizona in 1988 and worked at Verkamp's at the South Rim of the Grand Canyon, fulfilling a life-long dream of Mrs. Kent's to live at the Grand Canyon. The couple retired to Flagstaff. In retirement, she and Mr. Kent were active with the St. Vincent de Paul Society. She was preceded in death by her husband in 2001. She is survived by four sons and two daughters, David, Donald, Richard, Diana, Robin and Kathryn; as well as 17 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren. Services will be today at Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary Chapel, 16 W. Cherry Ave., in Flagstaff, starting at 10 a.m., with a Rosary followed by the funeral Mass at 11 a.m. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery. A lunch will be served afterward at Our Lady Of Guadalupe Chapel, 224 S. Kendrick St., in Flagstaff. Donations to St. Vincent de Paul in lieu of flowers would be welcome.
