Mearl James Proctor, 68, of Chino Valley, Ariz., born April 10, 1942 in Saginaw, Mich., passed away Jan. 17, 2011 in Scottsdale, Ariz.
A celebration of life will be 11 a.m. Jan. 21, 2011 with visitation one hour before at Arizona Wakelin Bradshaw Chapel, 8480 E. Valley Road, Prescott Valley, Ariz. Graveside service immediately follows at Chino Valley Cemetery.

Mearl J. Proctor left us to join our Heavenly Father on Jan. 17, 2011. Mearl was born on April 10, 1942, in Saginaw Mich., to Mearl and Bernice (Budrow) Proctor.
He was raised in California and Phoenix, Ariz., where he attended South Mountain High School. He joined the Army in 1958 and served 21 years and four campaigns in Vietnam. He was a sergeant in Special Forces and a Green Beret. He was discharged in 1979 and moved to Pine, Ariz., where he worked on a ranch and did a lot of horseback riding. He loved the mountains and the wide-open spaces.
Mearl moved to Prescott, Ariz., in 1982 and was a truck driver for a lumber yard. He met his wife, LaVonne, in 1984 and married in 1986. They built a home in Chino Valley with the help of his father and brother George.
Mearl loved to watch NASCAR races, football, camping, fishing, hunting and hanging out with the guys and veterans, like him, at the American Legion. He loved to go RVing and traveling back to Iowa and Wisconsin to see the grandchildren.
He will be missed by his loving wife, LaVonne; children Darcey Carolan, Brenda Eschen, Wayne Eschen and wife Michelle of Howards Grove, Wis., and Brian Eschen of Sumner, Iowa; grandchildren Brian, Emily, Noelle, Jenna, Jesse Eschen; Mearl's children, Tom Proctor of Prescott; daughter Tina and husband and one son; and daughter Chris and husband and children Logan and Nicole; his sister Cheryl Pernice of Goodyear, Ariz.; Phillip Proctor of Apache Junction, Ariz., and Fred Proctor of Prescott, Ariz. He was preceded in death by his father Mearl and mother Bernice Proctor, sister Pat Bagwell and brother George Proctor. He has several nieces and nephews.
Celebration of Mearl's life will be 11 a.m. Friday, Jan. 21, 2011, with visitation one hour prior. Burial with military honors will be immediately following at Chino Valley Cemetery.
