Memorial Service for Thelma King will be held Friday January 7, 2011 at 2:00 PM at The First Baptist Chruch in Winslow.
Thelma Alice King went home to be with the Lord on December 21,2010.
Thelma was born on October 2, 1919 in Cherry Creek Arizona. Thelma attended Camp Verde High School, where she met the love of her life Kenneth in 1933. They were married in 1938 in Prescott Arizona. In 1940, Kenneth hired on with the Santa Fe railroad and they moved to Winslow.
Thelma quickly became active in the community she grew to love. She worked as a midwife at the Maternity Hospital for a brief time; she served as the Service Chairman for the Arizona Cancer Society, hostess for the Winslow Welcome Wagon and was a member of the Winslow Women's Club. She was also a very active member of First Baptist Church where she taught Sunday school for many years and was active in Women's Ministry. There wasn't anything she loved more than her husband and family.
Thelma and Kenneth were married 70 years before he was called home to the Lord in 2008. Thelma will always be remembered for the smile she would get on her face when Kenneth would tell stories of their 'courting'.
She was blessed by her two children, Charles and Julianne. Thelma enjoyed cooking, painting, and was an avid reader and would often be seen studying textbooks. She also enjoyed polka dancing and having 'company' over for dinners.
Thelma is preceded in death by her parents Charlie and Alice Wilson, her husband Kenneth, and her brothers Cal and George Wilson.
She is survived by her sister Della Boler of Camp Verde, her son Charles King and her daughter Julianne (David) Baker of Winslow, Her grandchildren David (Krista) Baker and Gina (Dustin) Smith of Winslow.
Her great-grandchildren, Dylan (currently serving with the US Army in Afghanistan), Sydney, Coy, Riley, Cayden, and Wyatt, as well as many, many nieces and nephews.
