Rothacker Loe Sterling was born in Phoenix, Ariz., in 1916 and died in Prescott, Ariz., on Jan. 14, 2011.
He attended Phoenix Union High School and then went to work for Burroughs Corp. In 1940, he married Ramona May. Together they raised a daughter and three sons, Rosalie, Jim, John and Charles. Two of their children having special needs, he and his wife purchased and began operating the Skull Valley Ranch School, now known as Sterling Ranch in 1957. Here to express their Christian faith, they developed a home environment, not for just their own special needs children, but for those of other couples like themselves. Their effort became Rock's whole life; he pursued it with enormous tenacity.
He was an Eagle Scout and advocated for the Boy Scouts of America. He was a faithful churchman and a good neighbor.
A private family service will be at the Skull Valley Cemetery. A memorial service for Rock will be scheduled at a later date at the Skull Valley Bible Church. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Sterling Ranch, P.O. Box 36, Skull Valley, AZ 86338.
Hampton Funeral Home was entrusted with the arrangements. Please visit www.hamptonfuneralhome.com to sign the online guestbook.
