Kenneth Bly Martin
[April 15, 1924 – January 14, 2011]
Ken was born in West Henrietta, New York, to parents Royal Bly and
Gertrude Matteson Martin. Preceding him were his brother Hartley and
sister Eleanor.
Ken graduated from the University of Colorado as a Mechanical Engineer
and worked in the field of cryogenics at Argonne National Laboratory
in Illinois, being heavily involved in the Manhattan Project. He was
an early and avid proponent of being in a hydrogen economy. He loved
the outdoors, hunting, football, and meticulously designing and
working on projects around the house.
Ken was the proud father and dearly loved his three sons; Kenneth
Charles, Scott Bly, and James Bly. By a later marriage his love was
extended freely to Marsha Shreeve, Cherise Merrick, and Bill
Lovingier. He was blessed with twelve grandchildren and many great
grandchildren.
In 1980 he married the love of his life, Dixie Lovingier, and shared
nearly 31 years in a close and wonderful marriage that deepened over the years. They were known for still holding hands everywhere they went.
Ken had a true and humble servant’s heart and was pleased to volunteer
at the Bread of Life Mission in Holbrook, Arizona. He attended the
First Assembly of God Church in Holbrook. His personal relationship
with Christ Jesus deepened and was evident to all who knew him. He
was an outstanding example to us in his marriage, friendships, and his
faith.
Nineteen family members from many states shared a celebration of his
life together on Jan. 17. All of us will miss the love and joy he brought with his presence. As he was known to say, "I think I can do that!" we all have our favorite sayings of Ken to carry around with us. Sayings that make us laugh and remember how wonderful it was to have known Ken as husband, dad, and grandpa.
We will always love him and keep him in our hearts.
