HELM, Donald David


Arizona Daily Sun, Flagstaff, AZ Thursday, January 20, 2011 Donald David Helm, 81, died Saturday, Jan. 8,2011, in Sedona. Mr. Helm was born June 29, 1929, in Phoenix, to Truman and Bessie May Helm. He graduated from Phoenix College in 1950 with a bachelor of arts degree, from Grand Canyon College in 1953 and Arizona Bible Institute in 1955 with a certificate in Biblical studies. He worked in the radio communications field and was a reserve deputy with the Maricopa County Sheriff's Office. He relocated in 1967 to Flagstaff to manage Canyon State Communications. In the '70s, he founded Faith Chapel and was active in Full Gospel Businessmen, the Flagstaff Ham Radio Club and many community groups. After retirement, he was active in Christ's Church, Camps Farthest Out and served on the Human Rights Committee for the Division of Developmental Disabilities. His family would like to express special thanks to Hospice Compassus and Kachina Point in Sedona for the skilled and loving care provided in the last year of Mr. Helm's life. Mr. Helm is survived by his son, David (Denise) Helm of Cornville; and daughters Pam McNabb and Debbie Helm of Flagstaff. He was preceded in death by his wife, Elaine in 1991; and daughter Sandy in 2008. Services will be Saturday at 10 a.m. at Victorious Life Christian Center (formerly Flagstaff Middle School), 755 N. Bonito St., in Flagstaff. The family suggests memorial contributions be made to Rainbow Acres, P.O. Box 1326, Camp Verde, AZ 86322.
