Ralph Dudley Daniel, 85, of Prescott, Ariz., died at the Veterans' Administration Hospice in Prescott, Friday, Jan. 14, 2011. He was born in Phoenix April 12, 1925, the younger son of Charles and Alice Daniel.
Survivors include brother Charles and Millie Daniel of Prescott.
Memorial service will be 1:30 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 22, 2011, at Prescott United Methodist Church, 501 West Gurley St., Prescott, with the Rev. Dr. David McDonald officiating. Committal will be private.

Ralph Dudley "Dud" Daniel, a 24-year resident of Prescott, Ariz., passed away 1:41 a.m. Friday, Jan. 14, 2011, at the VA in Prescott, having spent just three weeks in the hospital. Ralph was born April 12, 1925, to Charles and Alice Mary (Donovan) Daniel in the Good Samaritan Hospital in Phoenix, Ariz.
Ralph is survived by his brother Charles and sister-in-law Mildred Daniel of Prescott; niece Karen Daniel; grand-nephew Dorianne and Robin Clouse; and great-grand-niece Sara; grand-nephew John and Rhonda Dyson, who have four children and all live in Carlyle, Pa.; nephew Robert and Laramie Daniel; grandnephews Charles Daniel III and Will Daniel, all of Glenburnie, Md.; and niece Tami Daniel, attorney, living in Glyndon, Md.
Ralph graduated from the University of Arizona in 1948 after being Asst. Sec. Editor to the Phi Kappa Psi Fraternity from 1945-1948, Sec. of Phi Kappa Psi from 1948-1960, executive sec. for 1960. Ralph was the Asst. Sec./Treas. of the Endowment Fund in 1948, Editor of The Shield from 1969-1974, Sec. to the Interfraternity Research and Adv. Council from 1975-1976 and was Exec. Sec. of Phi Kappa Psi in Indianapolis while residing in Indiana from 1948-1960.
Ralph served with the USAF from 1942-1945 and was a major reserve retired member of the National Association of Student Personnel Administrators, Fraternity Execs. Assn. President for 1960 and was Phi Kappa Psi Phi Delta Epsilon and belonged to clubs such as Cleveland Athletic, Cleveland Hermit and Columbia In.
Ralph appeared in the 40th edition of Who'sWho in America, 1978-1979, volume 1, as well as the 4th edition of Who'sWho in the World, both out of Chicago, Ill.
Ralph's fraternity career was an extraordinary one, being the founding father and chapter member of Arizona Alpha and established the Western Interfraternity Conference, attending 18 General Assembly Conferences, participating in the installation of all new chapters beginning in 1948, represented Phi Kappa Psi at 28 national Interfraternity Conferences and served as president of the Edgewater Conference and the Fraternity Executives Association.
Ralph was a guiding influence in the college Fraternity Editor's Association and the Interfraternity Research and Adv. Council. During his time as executive director of Phi Kappa Psi, 36,698 men were initiated and 45 chapters installed which was half of all men and chapters ever initiated or installed.
Ralph was known world round as "Mr. Phi Psi" (which was on his license plate for those who remember) and was also Mr. Phi Psi "Gentleman" to those who knew and loved him. We will miss him and his beautiful smile and his good humor, which was known as his trademark and his hallmark, as his "Phi Psi Brothers" said to him.
After his retirement, Ralph became Phi Kappa Psi executive director emeritus in February 1983.
The following is a list of many accomplishments and community services and love for humankind shown by Ralph during his stay on earth with us: recipient of North American Interfraternity Conference highest honor; the Gold Medal, in 1979; distinguished service award of the Fraternity Exec. Assoc. in 1997; Theta Chi Fraternity's Chapman (after award for Interfraternity Excellence) in 2002; Lamda Chi Alpha Fraternity's Order of Service award in 1986; the Medal of Honor of Phi Kappa Psi Fraternity in 2002; distinguished alumni award of Phi Kappa Psi Fraternity in 1989; Citation of Honor from Theta Chi Fraternity for Outstanding Service to Fraternity Movement in 1967; named Admiral of the Great Navy of the State of Nebraska in 1984; honorary memberships as Honorary Texan, State of Texas in 1969; honorary Okie of the state of Oklahoma in 1969; citation by the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania by it's House of Representatives in 2000; and member of the Board of Directors of the University of Arizona Alumni Assoc., 1980-1984.
Ralph was chairman of the Arizona Centennial Committee in 1985; Secretary and member of the Exec. Council of Phi Kappa Psi, 1948-1960; trustee and chairman (1990) of the Endowment Fund of Phi Kappa Psi, 1980-1990; editor of The Shield of Phi Kappa Psi, 1969-1973; member and president of the Order of SC of Phi Kappa Psi.
In Prescott, Ralph was member and chairman of the City's Board of Adjustment, 1989-1994; member of the Prescott Airport Advisory Board, 1995-1998; and president of Prescott Child Development Center, 1995-2000; and Board member as past president until 2004.
Ralph's ashes will be spread in the Prescott National Forest, which he loved so dearly.
Memorial services will be at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 22, 2011, at Prescott United Methodist Church, 505 W. Gurley St., Prescott, Ariz.
