The Daily Miner, Kingman, Arizona - Published on Friday, January 21, 2001 - Mariellen (Reed) Hoock, wife of the late Harry Joseph Hoock, passed away Saturday, Jan. 15, 2011, at home. She was the daughter of the late Frank and Iris (Harmon) Reed of Keokuk, Iowa. She was born Aug. 2, 1928, married Harry in 1948, moved to Cahokia, Ill., in 1952, and moved to Healy, Alaska, in 1969 for an adventurous life. After Harry's death in 1990, she moved to Kingman from Happy Valley on Cook Inlet, Alaska, for the sunshine. She loved travel and was an avid reader. She was a 1946 graduate of Keokuk High School. She worked in food service most of her life, eventually owning a successful restaurant business in Alaska; she retired in 1988. She held numerous positions as a deacon and elder of the Kingman Presbyterian Church, volunteered at the Food Bank, and was also a volunteer teachers' helper for first- and second-graders at Manzanita School. She was preceded in death by her sister, Doris Reed. Survivors include a sister, Thelma Bryant of Alexandria, Mo.; Elmer (Rose) Reed of Federal Way, Wash.; daughter, Vickie (Robert) Conway of Kingman; son, Mark (Oma) of Riverton, Wyo.; two stepdaughters, Judy Ritter of Alaska and Janie Keltgen of Florida. She had five grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandson. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Kingman Presbyterian Church's CEF program for children. A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 23, at 2425 Detroit Ave.
