Lydia Rita Sandoval, 64, a Flagstaff native, died Thursday, Jan. 20, 2011, at Flagstaff Medical Center. She was born Aug. 3, 1946, to Ygnacio and Altagracia "Grace" Sanchez.
Mrs. Sandoval had worked for Flagstaff Medical Center for a number of years in the cafeteria. She was an active member of the San Francisco De Asis Parish and a member of the American Legion Auxiliary. She was a wonderful mother and raised three great children. From those children, she was provided the joy of her life, her grandchildren, whom she loved dearly. She also enjoyed her trips to the casino and playing bingo. She was a friend to many people of all ages. She had a positive and giving nature about her.
Lydia is survived by her children, Lisa Quinn of Goodyear, Paul and Cherie Sandoval of Houston, Texas, and Loretta Sandoval of Blue Springs, Mo.; siblings Lucy and Leroy Aragon, Emilia and Roberto Almuina, Estvan and Carolyn Sanchez, and Cathy and Gilbert Griego; five beautiful grandchildren; and a number of extended family members and friends.
She was preceded in death by her former husband and father of her children, Ralph R. Sandoval; her parents, Ygnacio and Grace Sanchez; and her brother, Tommy Sanchez.
Holy Rosary will be recited Monday at 7 p.m. at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church. A funeral Mass will be celebrated Tuesday at 10 a.m., also at the church. Burial will be immediately following at the Calvary Cemetery.
