Pamela Marie Mundth Grahn, a native of Phoenix and a graduate of Arizona State University, died Dec. 27, 2003 in Roseau, Minn., after a long battle with cancer. She was 50 years old. The cause of death was multiple myeloma. A patient at The Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minn., Ms. Grahn had been hospitalized since October.
Ms. Grahn was born and grew up in Phoenix. She was graduated from South Mountain High School in 1970 and received a degree in electronic engineering from ASU in 1979. While attending college, she was among the first employees hired to open the Doubletree Resort in Scottsdale, where she worked as a bartender and in catering for five years.
Ms. Grahn is the daughter of Lyman K. Mundth, a retired vice president at Arizona Public Service Co., and Hilda P. Mundth, a longtime volunteer with church and citywide charitable groups. The Mundths have lived in the Valley for more than 50 years.
After graduation from college, Ms. Grahn worked for one year at Arizona Public Service Co. before moving to Minnesota to be married. There, she worked for OK Machine and later for the State of Minnesota Governor's Council as an advocate for children with disabilities. Ms. Grahn was passionate about helping children with special needs. She served on many other boards in the state of Minnesota to improve the care for such children.
For the last eight years she worked at HeatMor, Inc., a manufacturing company in Warroad, Minn., rising to the position of comptroller. She retired shortly before her death.
While growing up in Arizona, Ms. Grahn liked to take dance lessons and enjoyed spending time at the family cabin near Payson. As an adult she enjoyed gardening, fishing, needle pointing, playing the guitar and picking wild blueberries.
Her marriage to Greg Grahn ended in divorce. In addition to her parents, of Scottsdale, Ms. Grahn is survived by her longtime companion, Tom Morrissey, of Roseau; two daughters, Erin, of Grand Forks, N.D., and Dana, of Roseau; a sister, Michelle Mundth Vesey, a brother-in-law, David Vesey, a niece, Caroline, and a nephew, Will, all of Roswell, Ga.; five aunts, two uncles; and many cousins.
