MARINO, Jo Ann (Jody)

(Maiden Name: O'Neal)

Jo Ann "Jody" Marino, 70, passed away peacefully in Scottsdale, Arizona on January 3, 2004. She was born April 30, 1933 in Tuba City Arizona. She was the third out of four children to Joseph and Fannie O'Neal. Her family moved to Tucson, Arizona in 1942. She graduated from Tucson High School in 1951. While she was in high school, she met the first love of her life, Ernest "Ernie" Bellee. They were married in August 1952. She worked to put her Ernie through college (Bachelor's - PhD). They moved to Scottsdale, Arizona in 1960. After eighteen years of marriage, their only child, Michelle Leigh was born. Ernie passed away in December 1978. She didn't stay sad for very long because she met the second love of her life, Dominic "Dom" Marino, a captain with MCSO. They were married September 28, 1980. With that union her family grew with five more children from Dom's first marriage. She retired from Motorola in 1994, traveled with Dom, and led an active lifestyle. She was a strong woman whose presence made people around her better. She wasn't a woman of words but a woman of action. Through her actions, she gained tremendous respect from others. She was a giving woman who did not do anything "spectacular" but she led a spectacular life. This beautiful spirit who was a wife, mother, grandmother, friend, lifeline to us all will be in our hearts forever. She is survived by husband, Dominic; daughter Michelle Barto (Henry Barto); brother Del O'Neal (Camille O'Neal); children by marriage Mary Crawford (Lynn Crawford), Dominic Marino Jr., Suzanne Marino, Patricia Marino and William Marino (Dara Marino); grandchildren Marina and Ashleigh (Barto); Sarah, Melissa, Emily, Hannah, and David (Crawford), Dominic III, Joseph, Billy and Brianna (Marino); and many other loving family members and friends. At her request, no formal services will be held. The family appreciates all the loving support and wishes from all. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the American Cancer Society (800-227-2345) "In memory of Jo Ann Marino." Published in the Arizona Republic on 1/11/2004.
