WARREN,
Babs
The Verde Independent, Cottonwood, AZ
April 27, 2006
Babs Warren died in her home on Sunday, April 23, 2006. She was co-founder of Verde Valley School with her late husband, Hamilton Warren.
Babs was born in Guatemala in 1916 to British parents and attended school at Wycombe Abbey in England. In 1942, she married Hamilton Warren, from Boston. He was working for the Office of War Information (OWI) in Washington, D.C. In 1948, they founded Verde Valley School, based upon the idea (radical at that time) of getting students of differing races, religions and cultures to live together to learn to appreciate and respect one another. The Warrens lived in army tents for two years while they began construction.
They are survived by five children, Leslie Sarn, Deryn Warren, Christopher Warren, Gillian Warren and Kevin Warren, and 16 grandchildren.
Greer's Mortuary of Sedona assisted the family with the arrangements.
