Leola Grace Swinney, 89, died Jan. 22, 2011, at the Olivia White Hospice Home in Flagstaff. She was born Sept. 16, 1921, in St. Louis. At an early age, she and her parents moved to Cottonwood. She attended school in Clarkdale, where she met and was married to Cecil Swinney in 1938.
In the early 1940s, they moved to Winslow, where her husband went to work with the AT&SF Railway. Here they raised their three children.
Mrs. Swinney was a very devoted wife and mother. Her greatest love in life was waiting for Mr. Swinney at the Harvey House, where his train would arrive.
Mrs. Swinney is survived by her children, Sandra Marie (Jim) Huber and Cecil William "Butch" Swinney, Jr., both of Winslow, and Sharon Jen (Clyde) Shreeve of Queen Creek; sister Mary Fuller of Los Angeles; five grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Paris and Marie Webb; her husband, Cecil Swinney; one grandson; two brothers, Larry and June Webb; and two sisters, Evelyn and Helen.
A private service for the family will be held at a later date.
