TROXELL, Merritt David


Today's News-Herald, Lake Havasu City, Arizona - Published Monday, January 24, 2011 - Merritt D. Troxell passed away Jan. 1, 2011 at Valley Hospital Medical Center in Las Vegas. He was 88. He was preceded in death by his wife of 40 years, June E. (Hannis) Troxell, who passed away Feb. 22, 2009. Born in Allentown, Pa., Feb. 4, 1922, he was the son of the late Preston D. and Ida (Heipler) Troxell. He was a graduate of Allentown High School in 1939. After graduating from high school, he worked as an apprentice for L.F. Grammes & Sons in Allentown. He was a Coast Guard Veteran of World War II serving on the USS Rhodes, USS Adm Eberle and USS Kirkpatrick from 1942 to 1946. Following the war, he returned to L.F. Grammes & Sons where he worked as a buffer for serveral more years. He also worked for the Allentown Fire Department for 22 years before retiring in 1978, when he and his wife, June, move to Lake Havasu City, where they lived for 28 years. He was a past member to Moose Lodge 2269 in Lake Havasu City and held the degree of Fellowship in the Lodge. In November 2005, he and his wife, June, moved to Las Vegas. In his younger years, he enjoyed traveling, fishing (in Alaska) and hunting (in Pennsylvania). He also enjoyed reading and watching football. Merritt was a hardworking man who always provided for his family. He was also a generous and good-hearted man always helping people in need. We loved him and he will be greatly missed. Survivors include daughters, Gale L. (Russel A.) LaBeau, of Romney, W.Va., and Alane M. Webster, of Las Vegas; and niece, Sandra (Arthur) Carl, of Lake Havasu City. He was predeceased by his sister, Althea Bryfogle. A memorial service will be at 11 a.m. April 30 at Grandview Cemetery in Allentown.
