Travis Thursday, January 13, 2011 4:00 PM MST Parker residents, Virginia A. Ramsey, 71, and brother, Charles F. Alewine, 70, were found deceased in their home Dec. 31. A friend who looked in on them made the discovery and contacted the Parker Police Department. Police officers took the call approximately at 9:50 p.m. Parker Police Chief Rod Mendoza told the Pioneer the couple was in ill health and a week prior, Ramsey had fallen and was unable to get up. Alewine had lived in an assisted care facility and had returned to his sister's home several weeks earlier. He was bedridden and Ramsey was his caregiver. Mendoza said there was no forced entry and it appeared the two had died of natural causes. The friend, Andrew Solaiza, told officers the last time he saw the couple was around Christmas, according to the police report. Mendoza said he talked to Ramsey occasionally; she would have transients do chores for her and she would feed them. Ramsey told him she never felt threatened. In the police report, Ramsey had a notebook and wrote down her brother's medication schedule. The last entry was Dec. 24. The couple was in the Adult Protective Service program based in Lake Havasu City. They checked on Ramsey and Alewine four to five weeks prior to their deaths. Mendoza said an APS caseworker said they were checked on around Christmas but no one answered the door.
